COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

Despite all the hype in the media, grants are not available to individuals (regardless of race, gender or social status) to start a business, purchase property or pay off debt. With a few exceptions, grants are intended for non-profit organizations.

Very few grant opportunities presently exist for “For-Profit” businesses (with the exception of R&D, High Technology, Agriculture and "Green" projects). However, business loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration are available www.sba.gov.

It is not ethical or legal for grant consultants to be paid from grant awards. Grant writing is a specialized profession, and payment is due at the time of service.
